Summer Camp - Young, Gifted and Black Future Physicists Initiative

Future Universal Navigators (FUN) Summer Camp – Imhotep’s Legacy Academy (ILA)

Future Universal Navigators (FUN) Summer Camp is being held on July 25- 29, 2022 at Dalhousie University. Sponsored by Imhotep's Legacy Academy (ILA).
This physics outreach project is a part of a 3-program triad to increase the representation of African Canadians in the Physics discipline called the "Young, Gifted and Black Future Physicists (YGBFP) Initiative".

There are 3 phases to this project:

1) Pre-immersion, students do physics activities prior to summer camp,
2) Engagement, we select 10 students to attend the summer camp and
3) Follow-through, students receive mentorship.

With only 1% of physicists being of African descent in Canada, RBC Future Launch has funded an assembly of universities across the nation to remedy this epidemic, including York, McMaster, U Alberta, UBC, and Dalhousie University. This entails a cross-nation collaboration of providing physics enrichment programs.

Our summer camp is accepting applications for 10 students, an estimated value of $5000 per student for their stay on campus, engaging with our partners, and receiving academic support resources.  Attached is the camp application form, membership form, and information. We only have 10 spots available, I encourage your students to apply early to get their applications reviewed first. There are no fees for applying and attending the summer camp.
