St. Agnes Junior High

We Rise Together

Students of African descent at St. Agnes Junior High are teaching their peers about the meaning behind the Black Lives Matter movement through art!

The collaborative project, facilitated by Charmaine Willis, the school’s African Nova Scotian Student Support Worker, and visual arts teacher, Paul Carreiro, will remain on permanent display. The group also submitted part of the display to this year’s Delmore “Buddy” Daye African Nova Scotian History Challenge.

Through deep conversation and the creation of their own protest fists, students learned more about their history and their culture.

Now, they’re sharing that knowledge with others.

What did being part of this project mean to students?
