St. Agnes Junior High

Orange Shirt Day

This Thursday, St. Agnes will be participating in Orange Shirt Day. This day was designed to educate people and promote awareness about the residential school system and the impact this system has had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada. The date of September 27th was chosen for the annual event because it is the time of year in which Indigenous children were historically taken from their homes to residential schools. To raise awareness about indigenous history, students and staff are being encouraged to wear an orange shirt to school that day.
